Description:

Out of fear, people persecuted the wolves mercilessly - and exterminated them in many countries. With the "firing rifle" as in the fairy tale, but also with traps and poison baits. At the beginning of the last century, the last wild wolf was killed in Germany. But now the wolves have returned. Earlier, the wolf was the most widespread predator on earth. His prey included deer, wild boar and smaller animals. Sometimes wolves eat livestock even if they are not well protected and therefore easy to capture. So the wolf was persecuted until in 1904 the last wild animal was shot dead. However, after being placed under protection with us since 1990, wolves from Poland were able to immigrate again without danger. In the East German Lusatia, two wolves settled on an exercise area of ​​the German Armed Forces and founded the first German pack for more than 90 years. Today there are again 60 packs in Germany plus a few pairs and single animals, which live mainly in Saxony, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony, and occasionally in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
