Description:

The apes with the orange-brown fur, the friendly eyes and the wild hairstyle live in the Southeast Asian rainforest. More precisely: only on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. Unfortunately, they are seriously endangered and threatened with extinction! Orangutans, such as gorillas, bonobos and chimpanzees, belong to the great apes. But you can distinguish them clearly from the other monkeys: They have a brown-red coat, very long arms and the males particularly thick cheeks. Like us, orangutans have a big brain, an upright posture, thumbs, toes and no tail. The apes, up to 1.40 meters tall, prefer to eat fruits such as figs or durians - these are large, green, prickly fruits that only grow in Southeast Asia. In intelligence tests, the red-haired cut as well as gorillas and chimpanzees. Orangutans have a great sense of direction and a great memory.
